This page describes Calíope 1.5, the version we are building right now. 1.4 is finished and in App Review, and the store serves 1.3 on the Mac and 1.2 on iPad. The changelog says which version each feature landed in.

Adds an “Open in Calíope” button to every topic. It only works with the app installed.

Generate screenshots of the Calíope window in standard sizes and formats.

Where it is: File › Capture screenshot…

The Screenshot feature captures an image of the active Calíope window —including the sidebar, toolbar, and workspace content— and saves it to disk or copies it to the clipboard, all from within the app.

How to open it

macOS: menu File › Capture screenshot… or the shortcut ⌥⌘P.

iPad: menu Tools › Capture screenshot… or the shortcut ⌥⌘P with an external keyboard.

Standard presets

- Current size — the native window resolution at its real scale (Retina when applicable). Useful when you just want what you see.
- Calíope site (1840 × 1035) — 16:9 ratio used on caliope.org.
- Full HD (1920 × 1080) and HD (1280 × 720) — standard web formats.
- App Store macOS (2880 × 1800) and App Store iPad (2048 × 2732) — accepted by App Store Connect for submission.
- Open Graph (1200 × 630) — canonical ratio for social previews and messenger embeds.
- Social square (1080 × 1080) — Instagram, profile photos, square thumbnails.
- Custom — enter your own width and height (between 64 and 8192 pixels).

Scaling strategies (for differing aspect ratios)

If the chosen preset has a different aspect ratio from your current window, you can choose between two strategies:
- Fit with background (Aspect Fit) — Scales and centers the entire window so it remains 100% visible, adding an elegant padded background with a soft 3D drop shadow. The background can be a modern branded gradient, the app theme color, a blurred version of the app window itself, or transparent. This option guarantees that elements like macOS traffic lights or the bottom status bar are never cropped.
- Fill and crop (Aspect Fill) — Expands the capture to fill the entire canvas, cropping some edges of the interface to fit the ratio.

Formats and quality

- PNG — lossless; default format and recommended for screenshots with text and sharp edges.
- JPEG — lossy; the slider lets you adjust quality between 50 % and 100 %. Good file size for photographs or screenshots with many gradients.
- HEIC — lossy; better compression than JPEG at the same visual quality. Recommended for Apple-only workflows.

Timer

You can delay the capture by 3, 5, or 10 seconds. A translucent panel shows the countdown but does not appear in the final image. Useful for preparing the app before the shot (opening a context menu, showing a tooltip, etc.).

Destination

- Save — opens the system panel to choose a location. The suggested filename includes the date and time.
- Copy — places the image on the system clipboard; you can paste it directly into any app that accepts images (Notes, Pages, browsers, etc.).

Technical notes

- For presets larger than the current window, Calíope upscales to the requested resolution. For maximum sharpness (e.g. App Store macOS), enlarge the window before capturing.
- If the application is in full screen mode on macOS, physical window resizing is constrained by the system. We recommend using windowed mode or the "Fit with background" strategy to ensure a perfect layout without unwanted cropping.
- The capture always runs on the real view tree, so it reflects exactly what you see: themes, paused animations, focus states, etc.
- The capture permission is your own app's — no additional system "screen recording" authorization is required.
